EOM ADL Network

Objectives

The quality of the rehabilitation of visually impaired people depends on the quality of training professionals. The two jobs for Rehabilitation and support are Orientation and Mobility Instructor (OM) and Instructor in Autonomy Daily Life (ADL). While the needs are the same in each country (acquisition by a visually impaired independent mobility and activities of daily living), job content, training in these trades are very different today in Europe :

  • types of structures providing training: training center in an association in France and in Germany, university in Spain, ...
  • Large differences in pedagogical approaches : place to practice, articulation between theory and practice ...
  • Content and duration of courses from a few weeks to a year and a half in Germany, Denmark, ...
  • Relationship between OM and ADL,
  • Certification obtained at the end of training: ministerial recognition, recognition own training center, recognized by users, ...

The objective pursued currently in this project is to develop a system of recognition of prior learning and qualifications between countries by developing and transferring credits.

The approach will be multi-stakeholders (users, professionals, hospitality, government, training centers, ...), followed by businesses, in order to ensure full transparency of the certifications. The implementation of this recognition will increase the mobility of trainees during initial or continuing training, and will subsequently the mobility of professionals, even thinking about a European recognition of professional experience.
